Five Days And Counting

Today is Wednesday April 25th and in case you are wondering about the blog address, I just spent 20 minutes punching in a variety of proposed names for my next travel blog and every one was taken including IsThisOneTaken.com, so the the inevitable option was IsThisOneTakenDammit!!!!
Monday we head out on what might be one of the most complicated trips we have done in quite a while. Our last big trip covered about 7 or 8 stops but it was confined to one country (Italy)
This one covers about 14 different cities but it covers 7 countries. Luckily G Adventures is our guide for a little over half of the trip so the headaches will hopefully be reduced somewhat.
We have covered much of Southern Europe on previous trips and parts of this journey will mean we will be revisiting previous stops for a second time, (Munich and Vienna) or in the case of Budapest, this will be our fourth visit.
I did attempt to reproduce the G Adventures tour on my own but the logistics of getting around Poland and the Czech Republic on our own proved a little too complex without extending the trip to 4 or 5 weeks. Obviously some of the stops may prove to be a little rushed but we can always go back at another time.
After travelling to various parts of the world over the last 40 years we are now at the point where we  have ditched the big suitcases and are now travelling with little more than small carry on luggage. When you have size 12 shoes that doesn't leave a whole lot of room once you've stashed an extra pair of hikers and a pair of flipflops in case of communal showers!!
I wouldn't be surprised if my camera equipment outweighs my clothing but I want to be prepared for every eventuality.
Our first stop is Munich but we actually fly through Dublin both ways. Sadly time did not permit us to escape the airport, so Ireland will have to keep for another journey.
In a nutshell we start in Munich, with stops in Berlin, Prague,Krakow, Auschwitz, Warsaw, Vienna, Budapest, Brussels, Vimy (France)and Ypres (Belgium)
I hope to be posting updates every couple of days ( depending on internet access) if people care to follow them, uploading photos when internet speeds allow. ( My cameras shoot pictures in the range of 20megapixels so often uploads can take forever on slower servers)
I'm sure Susanna will be adding images to Facebook at a faster rate than I can upload photos to my blog, as she only uses her iPhone rather than an actual camera which makes the task considerably faster.
I must admit, I'm a bit nervous about travelling in Europe on account of the numerous terrorist attacks  in the last year or so, especially Germany and Belgium. After the recent incident in Toronto, it appears that there are really no safe places anywhere, so I'll fall back to my "Shit Happens" attitude and not get too worried. At my last calculation, I still have 4 of my 9 lives remaining so we should be fine!! LOL
Stay tuned for further updates in the days ahead.
